Apple Cider Smoothie

Apple Cider Smoothie

Jessica Penner, Registered Dietitian, asks "What do you feed your kids before a family gathering? You might be wondering.... 'why would I feed my kids anything BEFORE going to an event where there’s going to be a ton of food?'. Read on to get her thoughts and serve this holiday apple cider smoothie as what she calls “nutritional insurance”.

Jessica shares on Instagram: "There’s a lot of excitement and distractions, they’re in a new place with different people, there’s different food prepared by different people. All of this combined can cause a child to lose their interest in dinner. Then the dessert or snacks come out! These palatable foods are right at their comfort level, and they fill up on those less nourishing choices. This is why I make sure that I feed my kids a meal or snack that’s almost a guaranteed 100% hit with them before we go to a family dinner. With a nutritious meal in their bellies and with me not making a big deal of them either not eating much for dinner and then enjoying some treats, I know that they will be able to eat the amount of snacks that’s right for them. With a bit of strategic planning you can feel confident your kids are getting the nutrition they need without needing to micro manage their food choices! My kids ❤️❤️❤️ smoothies so this is often a strategic choice for me to serve at times like these. The holidays are not the time to experiment and expose them to new foods. It’s about balancing the indulgent foods with more nourishing foods I know they’ll eat! This holiday season try this smoothie recipe out as “nutritional insurance” before the onslaught of get-togethers!"

Nutrition to Help Kids Grow - and Sleep!

Every year our team of Pediatricians at Schneider Children's Medical Center have 20,000 visits from children with issues relating to growth. Our doctors wanted to find a non-invasive way to help children grow and the nutrition in our shake mix is the result of their efforts. The nutrition in our shake mix was shown in a clinical study to promote growth in 6 months, as well as improve sleep patterns in kids who take at least 1 serving per day.
